LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock woman is turning her disability into a super power.<\/p>\n
Steffni Randale was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy as a child. It\u2019s a severe and progressive genetic disorder that has no cure. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen they diagnosed me, they said the muscles around my heart would give out and they gave me [a life expectancy of] 7. Now I\u2019m 27,\u201d Randale said.<\/p>\n
The National Institute of Health reports Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy most typically affects men. Only one in 50 million women are diagnosed with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a muscle disease that attacks all of my muscles and makes them weaker than the average person\u2019s. It\u2019s weakened my legs, which is why I can\u2019t walk,\u201d Randale said. \u201cI also have scoliosis which is the curvature of my spine and why I have the halo.\u201d<\/p>\n
Randale had the halo installed when she was 11 years old. She says starting 6th grade wasn\u2019t easy, knowing she\u2019d look different than everyone else, but she didn\u2019t let it get her down.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy dwell on something you can\u2019t change? There\u2019s no cure, there\u2019s no fix, so I have to keep living life and being happy. I\u2019m very blessed,\u201d Randale said.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s that same positive attitude that she shares across social media. Randale boasts more than 500,000 followers on TikTok<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cMy niece wanted me to do a TikTok with her, so we did and it ended up going viral,\u201d Randale said. \u201cI wanted to show her that just because I have this disability it doesn\u2019t stop me from wanting to post.\u201d<\/p>\n Her story is also now televised. TLC asked her to be part of its new show \u201cOne Day in My Body<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThey really liked my story and the positivity I take so it was nice,\u201d Randale said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until filming that it finally hit like \u2018oh my god it\u2019s finally happening.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n She is featured on the third episode of the show which aired Wednesday night. You can watch it on streaming on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n Randale says she hopes her story inspires others who may feel different. She says she\u2019s proof that critics can\u2019t dim your light – carrying the moto \u201cit\u2019s just a bad day, not a bad life\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI just want to be an inspiration and a role model not just for people with disabilities, but other people who are too scared because the world can be cruel,\u201d Randale said. \u201cNothing\u2019s impossible unless you make it [impossible].\u201d<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 KCBD.
