County officials said worsening drought is pushing Corpus Christi toward emergency water shortages as Stage 3 restrictions remain in place.<\/p>\n

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Nueces County officials have declared a local disaster due to worsening drought conditions that are rapidly draining the region\u2019s water supply and pushing Corpus Christi closer to emergency shortages on Thursday.<\/p>\n

County officials said the declaration comes as the Nueces River watershed remains in an \u201cexceptional drought,\u201d with weather forecasts showing little to no relief in sight.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Officials say water demand across the Coastal Bend is now higher than what local sources can reliably provide.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The City of Corpus Christi, the county\u2019s main water provider, is currently under Stage 3 water restrictions and is expected to move closer to emergency-level shortages if conditions continue.<\/p>\n

County leaders say the situation is being driven by prolonged dry weather, shrinking water supplies, and continued strain on existing resources.<\/p>\n

The State of Texas has already issued a drought-related disaster proclamation that includes Nueces County, allowing for emergency response measures if needed.<\/p>\n

They said the local declaration allows them to activate emergency plans and coordinate response efforts more quickly as conditions worsen.<\/p>\n

The order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until the county judge formally lifts it.<\/p>\n
