\u201cSome people think we just play all day, but that\u2019s really how I\u2019m able to assess and teach,\u201d she adds. \u201cMany of my students are nonverbal, so we\u2019re constantly working on communication \u2013 using visuals, core boards, anything that helps give them language.\u201d<\/p>\n
School leaders say Bohling\u2019s impact is felt well beyond her classroom. <\/p>\n
\u201cMs. Bohling is pure magic in the classroom.\u00a0 She has an incredible ability to meet each student exactly where they are and communicate in a way that helps them feel seen, understood and capable,\u201d says Anna Coutant, principal of Northlake Elementary. \u201cBecause of her, our youngest learners are not only growing; they are thriving.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Bohling, her love for teaching is most meaningful in the moments she shares with students, especially the ones she doesn\u2019t always get to see grow up. <\/p>\n
She recalls a recent open house, when a former student, now in second grade, ran up to greet her. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe came in with his mom and dad and said, \u2018Ms.Bohling!\u2019 and gave me a big hug,\u201d she says excitedly. \u201cHe told me, \u2018I have to come see you every year because you\u2019re my favorite teacher.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Since many of her students move on to other schools, moments like these are rare, but lasting. <\/p>\n
