As Arlington celebrates its sesquicentennial throughout 2026, we are sharing stories about the people, places and moments that made The American Dream City what it is today.\u00a0This article and video were originally published in September 2022.<\/p>\n
On this episode of Arlington Eats<\/a>, host Cynthia Lemus visits Marquez Bakery & Tortilla Factory<\/a>, where they serve authentic Mexican food and your favorite sweet breads.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve been in Arlington since 1990 and began basically because there was a need in the community back at that time you couldn\u2019t find Mexican groceries stores anybody who cater to the Mexican community,\u201d co-owner Sally Venegas told the City of Arlington’s Office of Communication in an interview in 2022. \u201cMy dad decided to move to Arlington and start a business.\u201d<\/p>\n Thirty-six years later, Marquez Bakery has become an Arlington staple for the community. The restaurant is located near Arlington’s Entertainment District at 1730 E. Division St.. They are one of the community’s favorite places to have breakfast or lunch, and there is one thing that makes them unique, Venegas said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t do anything frozen; everything is made from scratch from recipes that have been handle down over the last 40 years,\u201d Venegas said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Since its opening, Marquez Bakery has grown to include a panaderia, a flour tortilla factory and a restaurant with a varied menu.<\/p>\n \u201cOur menu is authentic Mexican food, we serve huevos rancheros in the morning, breakfast burritos and for lunch we serve asados, the guiso, menudo and barbeque on the weekends and we have a variety of pan dulce. We make marranitos all the way to orejas, which is a gourmet Mexican pantry,\u201d employee Maria Rodr\u00edguez said in a 2022 interview.<\/p>\n Marquez Bakery & Tortilla Factory is open every day, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
