CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A woman celebrating her 100th birthday was brought to tears after walking into a surprise party filled with family, friends, and generations of loved ones gathered in her honor.<\/p>\n
At first, she didn\u2019t believe the celebration was for her.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought, oh my God\u2026 it\u2019s not for me. It was probably some big shot having a party,\u201d said Evelyn Lassman. \u201cAnd it was for me\u2026 I guess people love me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tables were filled with cake and fruit\u2014her favorites\u2014carefully arranged for the milestone celebration. She laughed through tears, surprised by the effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if they expect me to eat all of this cake and all of that fruit,\u201d she said. \u201cThey knew I liked fruit\u2026 I guess they piled it on me.\u201d<\/p>\n
As she looked around the room, the moment set in\u2014seeing family and friends gathered together. \u201cIt means that there\u2019s a lot of love\u2026 more love than you could ever count,\u201d she said. \u201cThey love me or they wouldn\u2019t have done all this.\u201d<\/p>\n
She reflected on her life and the family she helped build, calling the moment overwhelming.\u201cWhen you see all these people standing around\u2014the little ones and all\u2026 I love them all,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m just beside myself\u2026 I don\u2019t even know what to say.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lassman said the celebration is something she never expected.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just a shock for somebody to do this for me,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve got the best family in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked about the secret to reaching 100, she kept it simple\u2014focus on kindness and positivity. \u201cBe happy. Treat people fair. Be nice to your family like they are to you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She also emphasized staying active and maintaining a good attitude.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you don\u2019t use it, you lose it,\u201d she said. \u201cKeep a smile on your face\u2026 even if you feel bad. Smile, and you\u2019ll forget about that pain.\u201d<\/p>\n
