One company, Iris Mobility, is finding success because of it.<\/p>\n<p>RICHARDSON, Texas \u2014 What may look like ordinary traffic footage is, for one North Texas startup, critical data that could help save lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irismobility.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Iris Mobility<\/a>, founded by three 24-year-old friends, is using artificial intelligence to analyze crashes, near-misses and risky driving behavior in real time \u2014 giving cities tools to make roads safer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat car diverts into the other lane,\u201d co-founder Akash Buchi said while demonstrating the technology. \u201cIf there had been a dedicated road over there for a U-turn \u2026 this would have been avoided,\u201d added co-founder Mithilesh Reddy.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s software can detect collisions and even automatically alert emergency responders, while also identifying patterns that signal danger before an accident happens.<\/p>\n<p>The idea was born after the founders witnessed a pedestrian crash firsthand \u2014 an experience that shaped their mission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Texas, every 57 seconds, there\u2019s a crash,\u201d Buchi said. \u201cSo we were thinking, how do we stop this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just a year after launching, Iris Mobility is already drawing interest from cities across Texas and beyond. But breaking into those spaces wasn\u2019t easy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wouldn\u2019t have happened without Startup Runway,\u201d Reddy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Richardson-based company, <a href=\"https:\/\/startuprunway.global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Startup Runway<\/a>, is designed to help international startups enter the U.S. market \u2014 something its founder, Mahesh Nandyala, understands personally.<\/p>\n<p>After moving to the United States in 2011 to start his first company, Nandyala said he faced challenges navigating cultural differences and business practices. He launched Startup Runway in 2023, partnering with the city of Richardson to help global founders bridge those gaps and connect with customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ensure that we get them ahead of the game, get them in front of their customers \u2026 and help them make revenue in the U.S.,\u201d Nandyala said.<\/p>\n<p>The program has already brought 18 international startups to Richardson, creating jobs and expanding the city\u2019s global business footprint. City Manager Don Magner said the initiative is part of a broader effort to position the city as a growing technology hub.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichardson will be the premier technology hub of Texas,\u201d Magner said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that startups like Iris Mobility are already making a local impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s allowing us to do things like reduce accidents, improve safety on our streets,\u201d Magner said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s really important to our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Startup Runway continues to attract global ideas to North Texas, Iris Mobility\u2019s founders say their focus remains simple: using data to prevent crashes and protect lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what we want to do for the communities of America,\u201d Buchi said.<\/p>\n<p>Nandyala said Startup Runway is working with companies from India, Finland and more.
