Unofficial voting results from the city of Bellaire show Todd Thurber holds the lead in the May 2 race for Bellaire City Council, Position 4.<\/p>\n
Thurber has received 60.77% of the vote, or 683 votes, with Gay Mayeux receiving the second-highest number of votes at 329 votes, or 29.27%. All results remain unofficial until canvassed.<\/p>\n
How we got here<\/p>\n
After Cindy Cohen-Taylor vacated her seat early in December, Bellaire City Council officially adopted an ordinance in January to call a special election to fill the role.<\/p>\n
Cohen-Taylor won her seat for Position 4 on Bellaire City Council in the 2024 race against opponent Elan Tavor, as previously reported<\/a> by Community Impact.<\/p>\n In a Dec. 3 social media post, city staff thanked Cohen-Taylor for her contributions to the city and her time spent on council.<\/p>\n On the ballot<\/p>\n Candidates interested in the position could apply for a place on the ballot from Jan. 26 to March 3.<\/p>\n The four candidates who applied within that time frame are:<\/p>\n Todd ThurberShuba GrewalGay MayeuxKevin Newman<\/p>\n The candidate who fills the vacant seat after the election will serve the remainder of the term through January 2028.<\/p>\n What else?<\/p>\n During the early voting period from April 20 to April 28, nearly 1,000 Bellaire voters cast ballots, according to city election data<\/a>.<\/p>\n Remaining mail-in ballots cast will be counted May 4, Community Relations Administrator Cheryl Bright said.<\/p>\n
