{"id":277783,"date":"2026-05-04T03:47:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T03:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/277783\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T03:47:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T03:47:09","slug":"man-shot-killed-while-trying-to-steal-car-following-traffic-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/277783\/","title":{"rendered":"Man shot, killed while trying to steal car following traffic accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Garland police are investigating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fatal shooting<\/a> that occurred Sunday afternoon after a man crashed into two vehicles before allegedly trying to steal multiple other cars, according to a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Officers initially\u00a0responded to reports of a traffic accident near Highway 66 and Dairy Road about 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Once there, investigators learned a green car had struck two other vehicles before the male driver\u00a0left and went to a nearby gas station. Witnesses saw the man unsuccessfully attempt to\u00a0carjack other vehicles at a nearby gas station, police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police said the unidentified man then crossed Dairy Road on foot and attempted\u00a0to take a white Chevrolet Impala from its driver before the two got into a fight.<\/p>\n<p>The Impala was occupied by the driver, several children and two women, police said.<\/p>\n<p>During the fight, the Impala&#8217;s driver shot the man. He was transported to a hospital where he later died, according to the statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police said no one else was injured during the altercation.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the Impala&#8217;s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
