I was optimistic that Texas quarterback Arch Manning would take the next step on his 2025 game film, but it didn\u2019t happen. <\/p>\n
\u201cUncomfortable and moody.\u201d <\/p>\n
That\u2019s the label I would put on Manning\u2019s 2025 game film.<\/p>\n
Manning looked uncomfortable in the role as the team\u2019s starter. He looked uncomfortable in his own skin. He also looked uncomfortable with the Longhorns\u2019 receivers. That came across loud and clear on film with Manning\u2019s below-average-to-average throwing anticipation (+10 air yards). <\/p>\n
Manning wore his confidence on his sleeve in 2025. At times, he was visibly fired up, and at other times, he wore the look of obvious frustration\u2026<\/p>\n
I\u2019ll say this \u23af<\/p>\n
After sitting down for a few days and marinating in Manning\u2019s entire 2025 season on game film, it was painfully obvious why he didn\u2019t declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. He was not ready. As hard as they tried to push him in that direction, he proved he was not ready. <\/p>\n
Slowed down<\/p>\n
Manning led the Longhorns\u2019 offense pre-snap with a more methodical pace compared to what I stated in my previous scouting report. His time to throw post-snap also slowed down.<\/p>\n
Per Pro Football Focus (time to throw):<\/p>\n
2024: 2.74 seconds<\/p>\n
2025: 2.88 seconds <\/p>\n
Inconsistent throwing mechanics <\/p>\n
His throwing footwork was all over the place. <\/p>\n
Manning showed a serious mental disconnect between his lower and upper body whenever he was attempting to throw passes beyond his first read. His lower body didn\u2019t keep up with his eyes. His mind worked faster than his body could adjust.<\/p>\n
In terms of his throwing motion \u23af<\/p>\n
Manning consistently threw the ball with too much upper body, too much arm, and too much hips. It looked like a \u201cslingshot\u201d throwing motion. <\/p>\n
Sometimes he threw overhanded. Sometimes he sidearmed it. <\/p>\n
Manning\u2019s game-by-game time to throw (PFF: 3.28, 3.09, 3.49, 2.60, 3.49, 2.79, 2.67, 2.61, 2.53, 2.66, 2.80, 2.89, and 2.66 seconds)<\/p>\n
Average ball placement <\/p>\n
Short \u23af<\/p>\n
Intermediate \u23af<\/p>\n
It didn\u2019t matter\u2026<\/p>\n
Even screen passes weren\u2019t a slam dunk.<\/p>\n
Manning\u2019s completion percentage dropped from 67.8% in 2024 to 61.4% in 2025<\/p>\n
Downfield focused to a fault<\/p>\n
Manning keeps his eyes downfield no matter what. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s a positive and a negative for him. <\/p>\n
He\u2019s so downfield-focused that he\u00a0lets himself get too crowded\u00a0while throwing the ball, which produced mixed results.<\/p>\n
Ball security concern<\/p>\n
In 2024 \u23af<\/p>\n
I charted seven pass breakups (PBUs) in the six games Manning threw passes.<\/p>\n

In 2025 \u23af<\/p>\n
I charted 29 PBUs in 13 of Manning\u2019s games.<\/p>\n
2.23 PBUs per game average<\/p>\n
Silver lining in the cloud <\/p>\n
Mixed into all of this were numerous sporadic WOW MOMENTS when Manning suddenly looked like a superstar throwing the football. <\/p>\n
Hence his grade. <\/p>\n

There are some bad throwing decisions consistently mixed in with his film resume. Soft tendency to sometimes hard-set and lock in for an extra moment with his throwing targets. Doesn\u2019t see the whole field. Excels at improvising. Big play propensity. Good deep accuracy 33\/57 (57.8%). Average at protecting his body as a runner.
