LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mark Llanas said Monday that this will be his final year as head baseball coach at Estacado High School, ending a 16-year run leading the Lubbock ISD program.<\/p>\n
Llanas, who became head coach during the 2010-2011 season, has coached at Estacado for 23 years, including seven years as an assistant pitching coach before taking over the program, the district said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoach Llanas has been more than a coach at Estacado High School. He has been a pillar of leadership, a mentor, and a champion for our students and community,\u201d principal Dr. Angelica Wilbanks said in a statement.<\/p>\n
During Llanas\u2019 tenure as head coach, Estacado recorded 14 playoff appearances, including three district championships, eight bi-district titles, six area championships and three regional quarterfinal appearances, according to the district. He has 296 career wins.<\/p>\n
Lubbock ISD athletics director Mike Meeks said Llanas\u2019 success reflected \u201cconsistency, dedication, and a standard of excellence that players believe in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Llanas is a 2003 graduate of Lubbock Christian University, where he earned a degree in physical education and pitched for the school\u2019s baseball team. He teaches Advanced Placement World History and AVID courses at Estacado.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m deeply grateful for the opportunity to coach the sport I love for so many years and will always cherish the time I\u2019ve spent leading and mentoring numerous generations of students at Estacado,\u201d Llanas said, adding that he plans to continue teaching and supporting the school while spending more time with his family.<\/p>\n
The district said additional information will be released later about hiring the next Estacado baseball coach for the 2026-2027 school year.<\/p>\n
