incident<\/a> at the location off U.S. 75 in Plano turned the costume shop into a real-life spectacle, with shoppers staring upward as the animal darted across the ceiling.<\/p>\n\u201cThis was animal kingdom live,\u201d said customer Arlene Pinkston, who was browsing with her daughters, Fox 4 KDFW reported.<\/p>\n
Her child spotted it first: \u201cWhat in the world?\u201d she asked, before realizing, \u201cIs that a real monkey?\u201d<\/p>\n
Pinkston replied, \u201cWell, it\u2019s got a diaper on, so I guess it is real.\u201d<\/p>\n
Store employee Jimmy Harris said the monkey bolted after being startled by animatronic decorations. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was entertaining,\u201d Harris told Fox 4. \u201cA lot of people just stood and watched it for like 30 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Plano police responded and observed \u201cthe monkey swinging from the rafters wearing a diaper,\u201d according to a statement, Fox 4 reported. The owner eventually regained control of the animal by offering it a cookie.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt had jumped down on the floor and ran past my leg, and at that point I was like, OK, I\u2019ve had enough,\u201d Pinkston said, Fox 4 reported.<\/p>\n
No one was hurt, police confirmed, and the monkey was returned to its owner.<\/p>\n
Lisa Barr, Spirit Halloween\u2019s vice president of marketing, said in a statement: \u201cOur team responded quickly and contacted local authorities, who arrived promptly on the scene. In a rather unexpected turn, the monkey was safely coaxed with a cookie.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re grateful to our staff and local responders for handling the situation swiftly and safely.
