The Dallas Mavericks have named former Toronto Raptors president and GM Masai Ujiri as the Mavs\u2019 new president and alternate governor.<\/p>\n

In his 13 seasons at Toronto\u2014first as EVP and general manager, then as president\u2014Ujiri led the Raptors to the team\u2019s only NBA title in 2019. The Raptors parted ways with him last June.<\/p>\n

Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont called Ujiri \u201cone of the great basketball leaders of this generation\u201d and said his addition to the Mavericks franchise \u201cis a critical step in meeting our goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re honored to have him join the Mavs family,\u201d Dumont added in a statement. \u201cWe welcome his energy and determination along with his leadership, experience and many accomplishments as a basketball executive. We\u2019re very excited about the future of our team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ujiri: \u2018We will win in Dallas\u2019<\/p>\n

Ujiri will oversee all aspects of the Mavericks\u2019 basketball operations, including roster construction, player personnel, and scouting, while working with team leadership to shape the organization\u2019s basketball philosophy and long-term direction, according to NBA.com.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to join the Dallas Mavericks and step into this role at such an important time for the organization,\u201d Ujiri said in a statement. \u201cThis is a franchise with a proud history, passionate fans, and a commitment to winning. I look forward to working with our players, coaches, and leadership team to build something that reflects that standard and competes at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will win in Dallas,\u201d the new president added.<\/p>\n

Founded Giants of Africa nonprofit<\/p>\n

Beyond the NBA, Ujiri is the founder of Giants of Africa, a nonprofit launched in 2003 that\u2019s focused on empowering youth across Africa through basketball, education, and leadership development. In 2025, Ujiri was named a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining the Raptors, Ujiri led basketball operations for the Denver Nuggets, earning the title of NBA Executive of the Year in 2012-13. He began his NBA career as an international scout with the Orlando Magic and the Denver Nuggets.<\/p>\n
