\t\t\t May is lining up to be a game changer for the Houston food and bev scene. This month alone will see numerous high-profile openings. Bar and restaurant concepts opening in Houston this May include IIII, Mac Haik\u2019s Kirkwood<\/a>, the Portland-based Killer Burger<\/a>, as well as the grand reopening of Spindletop<\/a>. <\/p>\n Not to be lost in the shuffle is Bar Daphne. The striking new art-forward haunt is now officially open as a distinct experience at Houston Heights hotel. Located at the corner of Ashland and 20th Street, Bar Daphne is a 50-seat, high-concept cocktail den inspired by the neighborhood\u2019s history of secret drinking clubs. <\/p>\n Designed in-house, the bar\u2019s interior is a blend of Victorian and Art Deco influences. Outfitted in dark green walls, walnut millwork, marble, and artisanal tile, the venue features high-end details such as a Murano chandelier, red lava stone tables, and Gubi lamps. The bar also features a landscaped patio furnished with eclectic European pieces. <\/p>\n Its beverage program is an extension of the hotel\u2019s gallery-like atmosphere. Highlights include the Life on a Merry-Go-Round made with aperitivo, tart cherry, lychee, boba, and lime; Through the Woods with gin, blanc vermouth, pear brandy, and tarragon black pepper oil; and Somewhere to Light with tequila, sotol, lemongrass, honey, yuzu, and honey. <\/p>\n Bar Daphne\u2019s menu is rounded out with natural, organic, and biodynamic wines, mocktails, and beer.
