We got a chance to visit with the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and yeah\u2026our minds are officially blown.<\/p>\n
They popped up on our radar recently with a simple request for towels. Before we could even rally the troops, West Texas showed up big and handled it. That got us wondering\u2014what else do they need? So we went straight to the source.<\/p>\n
Sarah Hollers jumped on the RockShow with us to talk about what they do, what they need, and yeah\u2026we had a little fun with it too.<\/p>\n
80 Possums?! Yeah, You Read That Right<\/p>\n
Right now, they are absolutely slammed. Intake numbers are way up, and when Sarah mentioned they had \u201ca lot\u201d of opossums, I figured maybe 15 or 20. Nope. Try 80 possums. Eight-zero. And that\u2019s just one animal\u2014they\u2019re also caring for squirrels, owls, and all kinds of West Texas critters.<\/p>\n
How You Can Actually Help<\/p>\n
Like most nonprofits, cash is king<\/a>. It lets them target exactly what they need and buy in bulk when it matters most.<\/p>\n But if you\u2019re more of a \u201csend something specific\u201d kind of person, they\u2019ve got an Amazon Wishlist<\/a> ready to go. They\u2019re also in serious need of dog crates and kennels\u2014new or used.<\/p>\n And if now\u2019s not your time to jump in, no problem\u2014give them a follow and keep them on your radar. Opportunities to help pop up all the time.<\/p>\n Why It Matters<\/p>\n What these folks do is incredible. They rehab injured and orphaned animals and get them back where they belong\u2014out in the wild. And for the ones that can\u2019t go back, they make sure they\u2019re cared for.<\/p>\n From opossums to owls and everything in between, they\u2019re working overtime to take care of West Texas wildlife\u2014and doing it with a ton of heart.<\/p>\n Ways To Help:<\/p>\n
