Nueces County deputies say a stolen handgun was recovered after a vehicle crashed during an overnight pursuit.<\/p>\n

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Two men were seriously injured early Wednesday morning after a vehicle fleeing deputies crashed near Interstate 37 and Highway 286, according to Nueces County Sheriff\u2019s Office Chief Deputy David Cook.<\/p>\n

Chief Cook said deputies were patrolling the downtown area around 12:36 a.m. and patrolling the old courthouse, a routine nightly check for trespassers, when they spotted a vehicle doing donuts on Chaparral St. near Palo Alto St.<\/p>\n

Deputies attempted a traffic stop for the violation, but the driver sped away onto the northbound I-37 at a high rate of speed, Chief Cook said.<\/p>\n

The pursuit continued until the vehicle tried to turn near Highway 286 and crashed into a wall near the interchange.<\/p>\n

Chief Cook said both men inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Corpus Christi Police Department worked the crash investigation, and deputies said they recovered a handgun believed to have been thrown onto the roadway during the chase.<\/p>\n

According to the Chief Cook, the weapon was reported stolen in Corpus Christi.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the two men are expected to face charges, including evading in a vehicle.
