Colson transferred to UTEP from Incarnate Word in January. <\/p>\n
The redshirt sophomore immediately established himself as a leader in the Miner locker room this spring. <\/p>\n
Colson led player-only workouts and meetings. <\/p>\n
“I think our team is craving an alpha dog at quarterback to lead our locker room,” UTEP head coach Scotty Walden said earlier this spring. “In a situation before, we had a transfer come in and he waited until he got the respect of the locker room before taking over as the alpha. EJ situation has been different. While no one has been named the starter, he has jumped right into the pool. I think that is what we need.”<\/p>\n
RECOMMENDED: NM State baseball seeks consistency ahead of series with Liberty<\/a><\/p>\n Colson started 10 games last season at UIW. <\/p>\n Colson threw for 2,142 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions, while completing over 70% of his passes. <\/p>\n Colson started his career at UCF, where he appeared in three games (one start) as a true freshman. <\/p>\n Colson was rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN out of high school. <\/p>\n Over the course of his first spring in El Paso, Colson continued to feel more and more comfortable with UTEP’s system and tempo. <\/p>\n
