The presentation also emphasized economic vitality through tourism initiatives and commercial development aimed at sustaining a population that is expected to exceed 85,000 residents.

Diving in deeper

Weiss said the city continues to make extensive investments in water and wastewater systems. One of the most important of these investments is the construction of a secondary raw water line to provide water redundancy to Lake Pflugerville, he said.

Earlier this spring, Pflugerville entered into stage 3 emergency water restrictions due to a historically low lake level resulting from a break in the existing raw water line.

“This secondary raw water line is essential to creating redundancy in our system, providing support for any future issues with the existing raw water line,” Weiss said. “It will also build the capacity needed to serve our community. As we continue to grow, we continue to prioritize water. And I thank our community for responding with trust, cooperation and some patience.”

In November, the city was awarded a $176-million loan through the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act from the Environmental Protection Agency. This loan helps the city save money on critical projects by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental credit assistance, flexible financing features and competitive interest rates.

In February, the city was awarded $750,000 in federal community project funding to support the development of a water infrastructure project that will strengthen service capacity and support continued growth along the SH 45 corridor.

What else?

Additionally, Weiss said the city’s capital improvement program included major infrastructure projects to reduce congestion, increase safety and provide better access across Pflugerville.

This year, the city improved traffic flow and supported future development by completing Colorado Sand Drive and transforming Kelly Lane from a two-lane roadway to an urban four-lane section, Weiss said.

Additionally, the city also started reconstruction on more than a dozen streets citywide through neighborhood street reconstruction packages and made progress on key corridors including Immanuel Road.

The Downtown East project has also begun to take shape.

“The expansion of downtown aims to enhance local business growth, provide more walkable community spaces and promote a unified downtown Pflugerville,” Weiss said.

The new city hall and the Monarch Multigenerational Recreation Center, as well as the new parking structure, will provide opportunities for playful fun and business development, Weiss said.

Weiss said these projects will be completed by the end of this year and fully open to the public at the beginning of 2027.

At Pflugerville’s May 7 State of the City address, Mayor Doug Weiss discussed investments in infrastructure, focusing on…

[11
132,134,133,64852,973,77883,83177,104289
post-283366","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-austin","tag-austin","tag-austin-headlines","tag-austin-news","tag-downtown-east","tag-infrastructure","tag-lake-pflugerville","tag-mayor-doug-weiss","tag-pflugerville-state-of-the-city
["GET
