{"id":283431,"date":"2026-05-07T21:57:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T21:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/283431\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T21:57:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T21:57:13","slug":"allen-officials-kick-off-update-to-trails-and-bikeways-master-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/283431\/","title":{"rendered":"Allen officials kick off update to Trails and Bikeways Master Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen<\/a> is revamping its Trails and Bikeways Master Plan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/government\/city_council\/index.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen City Council<\/a> approved a $150,000 contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/halff.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Halff Associates<\/a> to update the city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cms3.revize.com\/revize\/allentx\/Images\/Documents\/Departments\/Parks%20Recreation\/Parks%20Trails\/Trails\/Parks%20and%20Trails%20Map-7-8-2025%20web.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trails and Bikeways Master Plan<\/a> at an April 28 <a href=\"https:\/\/actv.org\/internetchannel\/show\/4312?site=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Zoom in<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s current Trails and Bikeways Master Plan, adopted in 2019, no longer reflects current conditions, completed projects or evolving priorities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/government\/city_meeting_agendas_minutes.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to city documents.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, updates to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collincountytx.gov\/docs\/default-source\/parks-and-open-spaces\/documents\/collin_county_rtmp_report.pdf?sfvrsn=9b691114_5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Collin County Regional Trail Plan<\/a> in 2025 prompted Allen Parks and Recreation officials to begin updating the city\u2019s plan to align with regional efforts, Parks and Recreation Director Kate Meacham said.<\/p>\n<p>Infrastructure consulting firm Halff Associates has prior experience working with the city and consulted on the 2019 trails plan, Meacham said. The plan will be updated in multiple phases:<\/p>\n<p>Phase 1, May-July: understanding the current situation and gathering public inputPhase 2, July-November: analyzing needs and identifying gapsPhase 3, November-Febreuary 2027: Planning the future trail systemPhase 4, February 2027-March 2027: Creating an action plan for implementation of the updated master planAlso of note<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/allen\/government\/2026\/04\/14\/11m-watters-trail-south-project-set-for-may-debut-in-allen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watters Trail South<\/a> extension project is currently under construction and is expected to wrap up in May, Meacham said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cmuch-anticipated\u201d Rowlett Trail project, which will connect to Watters Trail, is currently out to bid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a trail that we\u2019re very excited about,\u201d Meacham said.<\/p>\n<p>The Rowlett Trail project will be funded through a combination of local sales tax dollars, county, state and federal grant dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn total, the project is anticipated to be around $9 million, with 50% of that coming from matching grants,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meacham said the project is expected to go before Allen City Council in late June or early July.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Allen is revamping its Trails and Bikeways Master Plan.
