The ’70s were a quirky time in architecture. It brought the likes of sunken livings rooms (a vibe every millennial is chasing to this day), re-envisioned the space-age glamour of the prior decade and introduced the ever-controversial Brutalist structures that loom imposingly over major metros across Texas. But it also felt like a free-for-all when it came to building homes. In one case, it bore a castle-like structure<\/a> hidden in an otherwise unsuspecting, tree-lined neighborhood dotted with ranch-style homes.<\/p>\n

On the Northwest Side of San Antonio, a quiet and picturesque neighborhood lingers unsuspectingly, sandwiched between the fast-paced hustle and bustle of both Bandera and Evers roads. But commuting along the short but winding hills of this quiet suburban oasis, a peculiar mystery with turret-like columns emerges from an otherwise average home.<\/p>\n

A castle<\/a> in the looming just a short walk from an urban hub? It\u2019s a shocking discovery jutting out from the scenic loop of smaller, older homes built in pretty traditional Texas styles. With unusually high-pitched rooflines and a medieval fa\u00e7ade serving as the main entrance, it\u2019s a sight to behold.<\/p>\n

While it may be fascinating to see, with the entrance modeled after an ancient gatehouse (though there\u2019s no drawbridge), San Antonio doesn\u2019t seem to be chomping at the bit to snatch up the one-of-a-kind real estate. Every trend comes back around, though, right?<\/p>\n

The home, located at 6617 Countess Adria St., has been on the market for years. While it\u2019s up for grabs<\/a> at an arguable steal \u2013 $420,000 for more than 3,700 square feet \u2013 it\u2019s been listed for a couple of years. It even got a mention on the Zillow Gone Wild Reddit page.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cYou could repel so many medieval sieges in this bad boy,\u201d one commenter quipped in response to the thread claiming, \u201cevery king or queen needs their castle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The home was built in 1972 and seems to have remained nearly the same ever since.
