<\/a><\/p>\nFace painting and more fun at Play for the Day<\/p>\n
Camp Sweeney\u2019s \u201cPlay for the Day\u201d Festival is the official start to summer in Lake Highlands, with food and fun at the newly christened Walne Park<\/a>. The 5K race kicks off at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day Monday, May 25, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Family Fun Run.<\/p>\n Proceeds support Camp Sweeney<\/a> for children with Type I Diabetes, sometimes called juvenile diabetes. Camp Sweeney helps children learn to administer insulin shots, test blood sugars and make healthy diet choices. For diabetic kids, experiencing the joys of \u201csleepaway camp\u201d might be impossible without the medical supervision provided by highly trained counselors.<\/p>\n The fun begins with a 5K race on a timed and certified course, followed by a family fun run for friends of all ages. The free outdoor festival features live music, games and rides. Dogs and strollers are welcome.<\/p>\n Runners may register as a team or individual online here<\/a>. Donors may contribute here<\/a>. She has moderated candidate debates for Dallas Mayor, Dallas City Council and RISD Trustee races and taught seminars on garnering publicity for nonprofits. She completed training with Dallas Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation and Inside RISD, and she’s a sustaining member of LH Women’s League. She has served on the boards of After8 to Educate, Dallas Free Press, Healing Hands Ministries and Camp Sweeney and chaired fundraisers for multiple Dallas nonprofits.
