A ceremony is planned for May 28 to recognize Glenn\u2019s accomplishments at the 2026 Winter Olympics<\/p>\n

Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn is coming home to Plano for a celebration years in the making.<\/p>\n

The city of Plano will host a public reception and proclamation ceremony on May 28 to recognize Glenn\u2019s accomplishments at the 2026 Winter Olympics<\/a> and her journey from local skating rinks to the international stage.<\/p>\n

The event will take place at the Plano Municipal Center, where city leaders, residents and supporters will gather to celebrate one of the city\u2019s most accomplished athletes.<\/p>\n

From Plano Skater To Olympic Stage<\/p>\n

Glenn\u2019s Olympic debut in Milan<\/a> marked a defining moment in a career built through persistence as much as talent. Competing for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Glenn helped secure a gold medal in the team skating competition before finishing fifth overall in women\u2019s singles after delivering her strongest free skate performance of the season.<\/p>\n

As a Plano native who first stepped onto the ice at age 5, Glenn spent years building a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 that included a Junior National Championship and three consecutive Senior U.S. National titles<\/a>. Her career also carried difficult moments, including narrowly missing the 2022 Winter Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19 shortly before nationals.<\/p>\n

Instead of walking away, Glenn stayed with the sport and continued training toward another opportunity.<\/p>\n

By the time she arrived in Milan at 26, she had already made history as one of the oldest American women in nearly a century to compete in Olympic figure skating. She also became the oldest Olympian to successfully land a triple axel at the Games.<\/p>\n

A Hometown Celebration<\/p>\n

The May 28 ceremony will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. inside the Florence Shapiro Council Chambers at Plano Municipal Center, with the official program beginning at 5:15 p.m. During the event, Plano Mayor John Muns will present Glenn with an official proclamation recognizing both her athletic accomplishments and her influence within the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmber Glenn\u2019s story is one of determination, resilience and heart,\u201d Muns said in an official statement. \u201cPlano is proud to celebrate not only her achievements on the world stage, but also the example she sets for young athletes and our entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The evening is expected to include remarks from community leaders and special guests, while giving residents an opportunity to celebrate one of Plano\u2019s hometown Olympians in person.\u00a0Her\u00a0father, Richard Glenn, serves as a sergeant with the Plano Police Department.<\/p>\n

More Than Medals<\/p>\n

For Plano, the ceremony represents more than an Olympic result. Glenn\u2019s career has become a story about longevity, setbacks and the realities of staying committed to a demanding sport long after many athletes have stepped away.<\/p>\n

Her return home offers the city a chance to celebrate not only medals and rankings, but the years of perseverance behind them.<\/p>\n
