After milling was completed, crews added the final top lift of pavement along Horizon Boulevard, work intended to smooth the roadway and bring it level with business entrances.

Crews also conducted a full intersection closure at Horizon and Darrington this past week to finish installing permanent traffic signals and remove temporary ones. In addition, crews completed the top lift of pavement along South Darrington from Horizon Boulevard to Nunda Drive.

After months of a complete closure on Darrington from Homestead to Horizon Boulevard, that section has reopened. The closure has shifted farther south on Darrington, from Homestead to Roslyn.

TxDOT’s Ana McCranie spoke on KFOX14 Community Conversations said that closure began yesterday and is needed for crews to install and replace storm drain, waterlines and wastewater lines. The intersection at Roslyn and Darrington, across from Alderwood Manor, is also closed. Crews will be excavating approximately 20 to 25 feet in that area for utility work. The closure on Darrington and at the Roslyn intersection is expected to last about 10 weeks.

On the West Side, drivers are being urged to plan for a major weekend shutdown tied to the I-10 widening project.

RECOMMENDED: TxDOT urges drivers to look twice for motorcycles as riding season begins in Texas

This weekend, drivers will need to plan for a 33-hour westbound full closure starting 3 a.m. Saturday, May 16, to noon on Sunday, May 17. During that time, I-10 westbound between Los Mochis and Anthony will be closed.

The closure is needed for crews to shift traffic to the new inside travel lanes of I-10 from Vinton to Anthony so crews can demolish and reconstruct the outside lanes of I-10 in that section.

Once the traffic switch is in place westbound, traffic will move to the new inside travel lanes with a new configuration: the current Vinton exit will be closed and a new temporary Vinton exit will open about a quarter mile before. The Vinton entrance ramp and Anthony Exit 0 will be closed.

Drivers needing to access locations between Vinton and Anthony will need to exit using the new temporary Vinton exit ramp and stay on North Desert. Drivers on North Desert can get back on I-10 using the Anthony entrance ramp, which will remain open.

Those ramp closures are expected to last through May 2027.

The westbound shift is similar to a closure and traffic switch that took place at the end of April on I-10 eastbound. That new configuration remains in place, including closures affecting Exit 1, Exit 2 and corresponding entrance ramps, along with the entrance ramp at Vinton.

Community Conversations: New closures ahead for Horizon and Darrington rebuild project

Sign up to receive the top interesting stories from in and around our community once daily in your inbox.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Road crews have made several visible strides in the Horizon and Darrington reconstruction…

[12
138,140,139
post-289764","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-el-paso","tag-el-paso","tag-el-paso-headlines","tag-el-paso-news
["GET
