ARLINGTON\u00a0\u2014 The\u00a0Rangers<\/a> have entered wait-and-see mode with the leader of their rotation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi<\/a> remains day-to-day with left side tightness, manager Skip Schumaker<\/a> said before Tuesday\u2019s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Globe Life Field, and it\u2019s still to be determined if the 36-year-old will make his next scheduled start or if he\u2019ll need additional time to recover. Eovaldi was scratched from Monday\u2019s series opener<\/a>\u00a0after he reported discomfort in his side earlier that day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe could come in tonight after getting all his work done and feel really good leaving the ballpark,\u201d Schumaker said, \u201cand then tomorrow we have a different conversation. We really don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

His next\u00a0scheduled turn in the rotation is Sunday against\u00a0the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. Schumaker declined to hypothesize whether Eovaldi will be able to make that start or whether he\u2019ll need time on the injured list given the finicky nature of side injuries.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Rangers did add right-handed pitcher David Davalillo<\/a> to the taxi squad. Davalillo, the organization’s seventh-best prospect per The Dallas Morning News’\u00a0rankings, has a 3.86 ERA at Double-A Frisco this season and is already on the 40-man roster.<\/p>\n

Eovaldi has taken four separate trips to the injured list in three-plus seasons with the Rangers but hasn\u2019t missed time due to a side or oblique injury as a big leaguer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThese things, you\u2019ve got to be careful with them, and make sure you don\u2019t try something right away and make it worse,\u201d Schumaker said. \u201cI\u2019ve had them as a hitter. You think you\u2019re okay and then you miss a significant amount of time.
