Cheyanne McCartney<\/a> swept the Corpus Christi Rodeo<\/a> last weekend\u2014taking Round 1 with a 1.9 for $4,478, then backing it up with a 2.0 to claim the finals and the $6,718 average\u2014pushing her from No. 28 to No. 11 in the Women\u2019s Professional Rodeo Association World Standings with $30,924.61 won.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s\u00a0the\u00a0ProRodeo<\/a>\u00a0story. But it\u00a0wasn\u2019t her only, or even biggest,\u00a0win\u00a0of the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCartney simultaneously banked $68,566 at the Gold Buckle Futurity <\/a>Spring Showdown in Ardmore, Oklahoma.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

She did it aboard four horses across two divisions:\u00a0Thiccthirty, a 2022 Metallic\u00a0Cattack\u00a0gelding out of Smart Mate mare Nurse Connie;\u00a0Dont\u00a0Quote Me, \u201cMuffin,\u201d\u00a0a 2022 Tagline mare out of BRC Popular Scotti;\u00a0Icingonthedeal, a 2021\u00a0Dealinwithacoolcat\u00a0stud\u00a0owned by Treston Brazile out of San Jo Lena mare\u00a0Shes\u00a0Sanjos Playgirl; and\u00a0Evereything, a 2020 Stevie Rey Von gelding out of Docs Stylish Oak mare Stylish Play Lena\u2014competing in both the 4-&-Under and 6-&-Under Open Futurity divisions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy weekend started off very good,\u201d McCartney said. \u201cI had a fun two days at the Gold Buckle\u2014rode some horses it was my first time showing and had some success on them, then rode some I know pretty good and had some success on them as well. They do an amazing job of making sure\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a lot of ways to win money. I know a lot of people walked away with $10,000 that didn\u2019t have to win first to get a good paycheck.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

After what she calls a slower winter on the\u00a0ProRodeo\u00a0side, McCartney has capitalized on the momentum built through the futurities\u2014and Corpus was the payoff.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She leaned on her\u00a0old faithful mare\u00a0Aladdins\u00a0Approach,\u00a0\u201cLexus,\u201d\u00a0to get it done\u00a0and credited her\u00a0futurity\u00a0success for helping build her up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI hadn\u2019t really had the winter that I was wanting to have, so I was playing catch up a little bit and just trying to put checks together,\u201d McCartney said. \u201cI was really thankful to carry my momentum with me to Corpus. There\u2019s a lot of rodeos left, a lot of money left to be won\u2014so anytime you can capitalize and string some checks together, we try to take advantage of that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

With\u00a0a full summer\u00a0still ahead, the Oklahoma cowgirl is inside a top 15\u00a0race\u00a0that is\u00a0tightening by\u00a0the week. Hali Williams<\/a> leads the pack at $79,276 through 10 rodeos, with Rylee George<\/a> ($53,348) and Taylor Munsell <\/a>($50,829) holding steady at No. 2 and No. 3.\u00a0<\/p>\n
