FOX 26&#8217;s Leslie DelasBour got a look at a local non-profit helping seniors.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">HOUSTON &#8211; For Houston resident Christine Scott, a new roof means much more than home repairs. It means peace of mind.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Scott received a brand-new roof through the nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seniorassistancefundlnc.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Senior Assistance Fund Inc.<\/a>, led by former Houston City Council member Dwight Boykins, along with help from Dalco Roofing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> 10 years of trouble  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KRIV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Scott says she had been dealing with roof problems for nearly 10 years and described the new roof as a &#8220;beautiful&#8221; blessing and a major relief for her family.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">She says it was hard to manage the repairs on her own for years, but it became too difficult financially.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">&#8220;I had leaks, and we did minor repairs, patching and things of that nature,&#8221; Scott said. &#8220;I had homeowner&#8217;s insurance and all, but then, they would come out and tell you, \u2018It\u2019s not enough damage,&#8217; and things of that nature.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Now, she says she is grateful to Boykins, Dalco Roofing, and everyone involved in making the project possible. Her message to others facing difficult situations: &#8220;Don\u2019t give up hope.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> Senior Assistance Fund <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KRIV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-94395e58=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Boykins says he first created the Senior Assistance Fund in 2014 while serving on Houston City Council to help seniors in District D with minor home repairs at no cost.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Since then, the organization has helped repair more than 600 homes.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">This year, Boykins says the nonprofit received a $10,000 grant from the Shanks Foundation in New York, helping identify 10 seniors in need of minor home repairs.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">Boykins says nearly all donations go directly toward projects.<\/p>\n<p data-v-94395e58=\"\">&#8220;Ninety-nine percent of the money goes to the projects,&#8221;
