HOUSTON, Texas \u2013 New data about bodies being found in Houston\u2019s bayous are raising more questions.<\/p>\n
Since 2017, 189 people have been found dead in the city\u2019s bayous, according to records obtained by KPRC 2 News.<\/p>\n
Nearly 40% of those deaths remain listed as \u201cundetermined,\u201d meaning investigators could not confirm whether those cases were accidents, suicides, or homicides.<\/p>\n
One of those families still waiting for answers is that of 22-year-old Kenneth Cutting, who was found in Buffalo Bayou nearly a year and a half ago.<\/p>\n
His cousin, Lauren Freeman, says Kenneth\u2019s disappearance and death never made sense.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not somewhere Kenneth had ever been in his life,\u201d Freeman said. \u201cThis is bigger than Kenneth. It\u2019s more than just him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Freeman says Kenneth was last seen at Pete\u2019s Piano Bar in downtown Houston. <\/p>\n
She shared a video from that night showing Kenneth with friends. <\/p>\n
Hours later, the family received a text saying Kenneth \u201cwent crazy\u201d and got out of a car near I-10 and Waco. <\/p>\n
His body was found about a mile away.<\/p>\n
KPRC 2\u2019s review of public data shows that at least 75 bayou deaths in the last eight years have been ruled undetermined by the Harris County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Families say that uncertainty leaves them without closure and raises questions about whether foul play could be being overlooked.<\/p>\n
KPRC 2 News has reached out to the Harris County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office regarding Kenneth\u2019s case and the high number of undetermined deaths. <\/p>\n
Medical examiners admitted there was a clerical error in Kenneth\u2019s autopsy report, but said the error had no impact on the findings or the cause and manner of his death. <\/p>\n
Officials say they review every case carefully and will re-examine files when new evidence surfaces.<\/p>\n
