This week, the Department of Education issued new guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon encouraged its use, saying in a statement: \u201cArtificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize education and support improved outcomes for learners.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes as an AI-powered school, first founded in Austin, prepares to open a new location in Plano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At Alpha School, core academics are covered in just two hours each day.<\/p>\n

At an informational session for prospective parents, co-founder MacKenzie Price said students instead focus the majority of their time learning life and tech skills thanks to the power of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

The school will open to kindergarten through third graders in August.<\/p>\n

“What’s really incredible about artificial intelligence coming into the educational system is that it finally enables us to provide one-to-one personalized learning for each student that meets them exactly where they need to be met,\u201d said Price.<\/p>\n

It’s a growing trend in the classroom.<\/p>\n

A recent Gallup poll found that six in 10 teachers use AI tools<\/a>, saving themselves an average of six hours of work per week.<\/p>\n

“Instead of having to spend their time creating lesson plans and writing lectures and having to decide how they’re going to meet 30 students who all have very specific needs, our teachers are able to spend all of their time on motivational and emotional support and mentorship,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to a 2023 Forbes survey<\/a>, about half found it improved learning outcomes.<\/p>\n

As a parent, Samantha Stinson said Alpha\u2019s model makes sense thanks to a tool she wants her son to grow up understanding.<\/p>\n

“I think artificial intelligence is kind of the future whether we like it or not. I think it’s something that’s already a part of our lives on a daily basis. I use ChatGPT to research and use it as a sounding board for questions already, so I think it’s a great idea. I think it’s really personalized in that way,\u201d said Stinson.<\/p>\n
