The Texas Hill Country has been up in arms after the announcement of\u00a0Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives, a new Bravo reality TV show<\/a> set in none other than Boerne, Texas. While only a few details are known about the show as of yet, Texans are already casting their dice as to how the region will be portrayed and who will be cast \u2014 and it’s been the\u00a0source of some controversy<\/a>. Now, even the City of Boerne has made its response.<\/p>\n City of Boerne clarifies involvement in Bravo’s ‘Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives’<\/p>\n In a Tuesday, May 12, City Council meeting<\/a>, Boerne City Manager\u00a0Ben Thatcher addressed the buzz <\/a>around the show, saying he’d received lots of questions and concerns surrounding the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n According to Thatcher, the City of Boerne learned about Texas Wives “at essentially the same time the public did” when the announcement dropped on Monday, May 11<\/a>. He said, “the City of Boerne is not producing, sponsoring, endorsing, casting, or otherwise partnering in this television production,” and added that a production manager did reach out to the Parks Department with a film permit inquiry after the announcement was made. But as of yet, Thatcher said no formal permit application has been submitted, and the city has not approved of any street closures, park closures or use of city property.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, he did give a glimpse into where the show could possibly film, according to the production manager. The project currently expects to shoot inside residences and occasionally capture cast members exiting vehicles, walking downtown or eating at local restaurants. Much of it could take place in surrounding areas that are outside the city’s jurisdiction, Thatcher noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n Boerne is a Film Friendly Texas community, which means it has specific guidelines for filming when a production has impacts that fall under city ordinances or wants to use public property like streets, rights-of-way, parks, facilities, city equipment or personnel, and traffic control. Thatcher said if formal requests are submitted, the city will review them in accordance with the law and normal processes \u2014 and the review will be “based on the operational and legal standards in our ordinances and policies, not on the viewpoint,\u00a0storyline, or editorial choices of a production.”<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n ‘Boerne is far more than a storyline’: City responds to Bravo TV show<\/p>\n Aside from talking about specifics of the production, Thatcher also addressed some of locals’ concerns. He said the City understands the trepidation because “so little is known about the project at this time.”<\/p>\n “What we do know is that our neighbors care deeply about Boerne, its character, and the way our name is used. We take immense pride in our community and what it represents,” he said. “Boerne is far more than a storyline. Boerne is a real community made up of families, neighborhoods, small businesses, churches, volunteers, public servants, and people who work hard every day to make this a special place. That is the Boerne our residents know, value, and help sustain every day.”<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Why is Bravo’s ‘Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives’ causing controversy?<\/p>\n Along with the announcement of the TV show, which will center on the “dramatic lives of a close\u2011knit group of women,” there came immediate curiosity and backlash. A description of the series reads,\u00a0” In the heart of Texas Hill Country is the picture\u2011perfect town of Boerne, where wealth, beauty, faith and family reign supreme,” and viewers can expect to see romance and drama on ranches and in town.\u00a0<\/p>\n Some commenters said they were “sat” and already planning watch parties.
