Forecasts are now pointing toward five straight days above 90 degrees, with Saturday potentially climbing all the way to 100-101. And let\u2019s be honest \u2014 when meteorologists say \u201cover 90,\u201d that can mean way over 90.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"520\" data-end=\"728\">The sudden blast of heat feels especially strange because we were dealing with cool, gloomy, and downright weird weather just last weekend. West Texas weather doesn\u2019t exactly believe in easing people into summer.<\/p>\n<p>A Hot Day\u2026But Not A Record<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"963\">As intense as\u00a0100-101\u00a0sounds for mid-May, it actually would not set a record. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/history\/daily\/us\/tx\/lubbock\/KLBB\/date\/2025-5-16\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lubbock has reached 102 on May 16th<\/a>\u00a0before. Still, that doesn\u2019t mean this kind of heat is normal.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"965\" data-end=\"1170\">Historically, the average temperature for this time of year sits around 84 degrees. Last year ran warmer than usual, averaging closer to 89, but triple digits are still a big jump this early in the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Good News Comes Sunday<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1284\">Thankfully, this may just be a quick preview of what\u2019s waiting later this summer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1533\">Current projections show temperatures backing down to around 97 on Sunday before settling back into the 80s beginning Tuesday for roughly the next week and a half. In other words, we may only need to survive one truly brutal afternoon before things calm down again.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t Let The First Heat Blast Fool You<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1579\" data-end=\"1783\">One thing Texans know is that heat can sneak up on you \u2014 especially the first major spike of the year.
