An El Paso family is asking for the community’s assistance after a hit-and-run collision seriously injured a young man walking back to work.<\/p>\n

Dominic Wegmann, 20, is recovering at a hospital after being hit by a pickup truck when he went to buy slushies at a Circle K<\/a> store for his coworkers at The Shack Slice & Brew restaurant on Mother’s Day, May 10, on the East Side, according to an email his mother, Fabiola Wegmann, sent to the El Paso Times and a GoFundMe<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

The collision occurred late in the morning when a black truck hit Wegmann as he was crossing Album Avenue near McRae Boulevard in the Eastwood area, his family said. The truck left the scene.<\/p>\n

The Circle K store is across Album Avenue from The Shack.<\/p>\n

Dominic Wegmann was walking to work when he was struck and injured by a truck in hit-and-run collision while crossing Album Avenue near McRae Boulevard in the late morning of Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, in East El Paso.<\/p>\n

The case is under investigation by the El Paso police Special Traffic Investigations Unit, which handles hit-and-run collisions as well as fatal crashes, police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros said.<\/p>\n

Wegmann, who does not have medical insurance, suffered multiple injuries, including a dislocated and broken hip and a broken arm, and faces several surgeries and a long recovery, his family said. The fundraising page had collected more than $8,800 as of Thursday, May 14.<\/p>\n

“Our family is desperate for answers and hoping someone in the community may have witnessed the accident or noticed a truck with fresh damage around that time,” his mother stated in the email.<\/p>\n

The family is asking that anyone with home surveillance footage, dashcam video or any information regarding the truck possibly involved in the collision contact the El Paso Police Department.<\/p>\n
