EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 El Paso Children\u2019s Hospital has added two new pieces of medical technology that officials say will bring first-of-their-kind treatment options to Borderland patients and help keep more of them in El Paso for care.<\/p>\n
The hospital recently purchased a new CO2 laser system that doctors say will treat deep scars and burns with more precision. <\/p>\n
According to the hospital, the Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 Laser is used to help improve the appearance and flexibility of damaged skin from burns and scars by creating precise microscopic treatment areas within the tissue, which will help stimulate healing. <\/p>\n
Jeannie Shaw, associate administrator at El Paso Children\u2019s Hospital, said, \u201cThis laser is the only laser that’s in the region. It helps the scar tissue tremendously, so the patients will be able to get up faster, be mobilized faster.”<\/p>\n
The hospital also purchased a ZEISS KINEVO 900 S microscope that uses 3D software to give surgeons clearer models during procedures. <\/p>\n
According to the hospital, the microscope is designed for complex procedures, helping surgeons see tiny structures such as nerves and blood vessels. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe also purchased a ZEISS KINEVO 900 S, it’s the latest and greatest microscope,\u201d Shaw said. \u201cIt helps us be at the forefront of treating patients.” <\/p>\n
Hospital officials said the new medical technology will help keep more patients in El Paso. <\/p>\n
“For El Paso, bringing this level of cutting-edge technology to the region represents a major advancement in specialized surgical care closer to home,” El Paso Children’s Hospital said in a statement. <\/p>\n
