<\/p>\n OREM, Utah\u00a0\u2013 Utah Valley used a four-run third inning and back-to-back home runs in the seventh to pull away from UT Arlington, 13-5, in Thursday’s WAC series opener at UCCU Ballpark. The Mavericks fall to 18-29 overall and 7-9 in conference play.<\/p>\n UTA responded with two runs in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Clark Springs<\/a> and a two-run double by Jackson Hill<\/a>, then added two more in the seventh on a two-RBI double by Xander McAfee<\/a>. The Mavericks could not overcome a big seventh inning from the Wolverines, who plated four runs on a pair of home runs to extend their lead.<\/p>\n Hill finished 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace UTA offensively. McAfee doubled twice and drove in two, and Preston Knott<\/a> added an RBI single.<\/p>\n Caylon Dygert<\/a> took the loss, dropping to 5-5 after allowing six runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings.<\/p>\n PITCHING PROFILE ON DECK -#BuckEm-<\/p>\n FOLLOW THE MAVS
\nCaylon Dygert<\/a> worked 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts. Merek Sears<\/a> allowed four runs in 0.2 innings. Charlie Giese<\/a> gave up four runs on five hits in 1.0 inning. Jacob Havern<\/a> tossed 1.0 scoreless inning.<\/p>\n
