{"id":294414,"date":"2026-05-15T11:52:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/294414\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T11:52:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T11:52:07","slug":"lubbock-law-enforcement-citizens-academy-offers-behind-the-badge-experience-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/294414\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock Law Enforcement Citizens academy offers behind-the-badge experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The Lubbock Police Department is working with other local departments to offer community members a chance to experience what it takes to serve in law enforcement through the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdSXXF4yzEkxcbm0DFGnd1aiCwNCpyz18DQ1VDtIzV8nq_76g\/viewform\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdSXXF4yzEkxcbm0DFGnd1aiCwNCpyz18DQ1VDtIzV8nq_76g\/viewform\">Lubbock Law Enforcement Citizens Academy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Corporal Jason Harville with the Lubbock Police Department said it is an honor to put on the badge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI am representing&#8230;I am representing something that\u2019s more than I am,\u201d Harville said. \u201cI come into work not as an individual but as a team member that\u2019s looking into bettering our community and our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Learning the day to day of law enforcement <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Harville said no two days on the job are ever the same, and every shift comes with the unknown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAnd during the day you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re getting into that day but it can be at either extreme or anywhere in the middle, so officers have a lot to deal with in the sense of being prepared for anything that might fall on either end or between that spectrum and it takes a lot of personal time and commitment to be prepared and respond to those calls when the time comes,\u201d Harville said.<\/p>\n<p>What it\u2019s like behind the badge <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Sergeant Steve Bergen said the Lubbock Law Enforcement Citizens Academy gives community members the chance to experience what it takes to serve in law enforcement firsthand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe citizens academy just humanizes the badge; they get to know all three agencies and the DA office, so they get a glimpse of what the courtroom is like, why we do certain things, why we enforce traffic and take measures to keep the public safe,\u201d Bergen said.<\/p>\n<p>Impact of Citizens Academy<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Bergen said many people leave the academy with a new perspective and greater appreciation for the work and sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSometimes there are conceived notions little bit when they start on what law enforcement does, and by the end of it I can tell you they are always appreciative of what we provide to the general public and the personal relationships,\u201d Bergen said. \u201cThe last three years I have been a part of it, it has always been great of how we end, we have a great graduation ceremony, and it\u2019s always positive and a great experience for them and for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For more information and to apply to the academy, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdSXXF4yzEkxcbm0DFGnd1aiCwNCpyz18DQ1VDtIzV8nq_76g\/viewform\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdSXXF4yzEkxcbm0DFGnd1aiCwNCpyz18DQ1VDtIzV8nq_76g\/viewform\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KCBD.
