CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi may be closer to securing major federal funding for its proposed Inner Harbor desalination plant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Congressman Michael Cloud announcing Thursday night that President Donald Trump’s administration removed a funding cap tied to large water infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n
According to Cloud, the administration recently eliminated a $30 million cap that had made it difficult for large-scale desalination projects like Corpus Christi\u2019s Inner Harbor desal plant to qualify for significant federal support.<\/p>\n
Cloud said officials with the Interior Department are closely tracking Corpus Christi\u2019s application for funding.<\/p>\n
The change could improve the city\u2019s chances of receiving federal dollars for the project, which city leaders have identified as a key part of securing a long-term water supply amid ongoing drought concerns and growing water demand across the Coastal Bend.<\/p>\n
Corpus Christi officials have continued pursuing multiple water supply strategies as the region faces worsening drought conditions and concerns about future water availability.<\/p>\n
