{"id":296297,"date":"2026-05-16T18:43:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T18:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/296297\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T18:43:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T18:43:09","slug":"man-with-knife-shot-killed-after-charging-metro-officers-at-southeast-houston-bus-stop-agency-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/296297\/","title":{"rendered":"Man with knife shot, killed after charging METRO officers at southeast Houston bus stop, agency says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HOUSTON \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/HPD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Houston police<\/a> are investigating after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/METRO_Police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">METRO officers<\/a> shot and killed a man Saturday morning outside a bus stop near Park Place Boulevard and Findlay Street, METRO said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to METRO, a bus operator noticed a person at the stop holding a knife around 10:45 a.m. and alerted METRO\u2019s control center. Supervisors and METRO police responded, and the encounter escalated when the man moved toward officers, prompting them to fire their weapons, METRO said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The man was hurt and received emergency care at the scene before being taken to a hospital, where he died about 30 minutes later, METRO said. No riders or METRO employees were injured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As is typical in officer-involved shootings, METRO said the Houston Police Department has assumed the investigation and will be the agency releasing updates. METRO police are cooperating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">METRO also praised the employee who reported the situation, saying the worker followed procedure and quickly notified authorities.
