{"id":297047,"date":"2026-05-17T12:21:35","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T12:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/297047\/"},"modified":"2026-05-17T12:21:35","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T12:21:35","slug":"woodridge-elementary-school-students-cross-finish-line-on-full-marathon-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/297047\/","title":{"rendered":"Woodridge Elementary School students cross finish line on full marathon journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ALAMO HEIGHTS, Texas \u2013 For hundreds of students at Woodridge Elementary School, every step this school year has led to a major accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">More than 300 first and second-graders in the Alamo Heights Independent School District officially completed a full marathon this week \u2014 totaling 26.2 miles \u2014 after spending months pushing toward their goal in physical education (P.E.) classes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The challenge was inspired by the theme of the San Antonio Marathon: \u201cWhere Every Step Tells a Story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Students began tracking their progress in August using a marathon map and gradually added miles throughout the school year. This week, the students completed their final two laps and celebrated by crossing the finish line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Representatives from San Antonio Sports, the organization behind the San Antonio Marathon, visited the campus to award students official marathon medals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cAll year in P.E. at Woodridge, we\u2019ve run every time they come to the gym to build up to 26.2 miles, which is a full marathon,\u201d said Woodridge Elementary Coach Brooks Kirk. \u201cToday we\u2019re just celebrating our kids and all their hard work to finish their marathon journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Kirk said the program is about more than fitness.
