Although a video of adult actress Angela Tiger having sex was at least two decades old, more than 37,000 people watched it on X.<\/p>\n

And 23 hit \u201crepost,\u201d sharing the French pornography<\/a> with their own social media followers. One of them was using former Hillsong Church pastor Brian Houston\u2019s phone.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t him, Houston said.<\/p>\n

The Hillsong founder, who left the Australia-based megachurch in 2022 after an internal investigation confirmed multiple instances of inappropriate conduct<\/a>, claimed that his X account had been \u201ccompromised.\u201d<\/p>\n

Houston, 72, told his 543,000 followers on X on May 14 that \u201cany odd posts, links or messages shared earlier were not legitimate.\u201d He later clarified that his account was not hacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone temporarily had access to my twitter account on my phone,\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Houston did not explain how someone could have had his phone, opened the social media app, found the video posted weeks before by \u201cThe Classic Pornostar Era 80\/90\/2000\u201d and then shared it.<\/p>\n

The repost went up at about 2 a.m. in California, where Houston is reportedly<\/a> living. It was deleted several hours later.<\/p>\n

Few people on X found Houston\u2019s explanation plausible.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou posted porn bro,\u201d one of Houston\u2019s followers commented<\/a>. Another from South Africa urged<\/a> the former pastor to \u201cturn from the scourge of porn, and seek the face of Jesus, who alone saves sinners from their sin.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the second time that Houston has claimed his social media account was hijacked. In February 2024, a late-night post on his X account said, \u201cLadies and girls kissing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics have speculated<\/a> that Houston meant to search the social media platform for lesbian pornographic content but entered the search term into the wrong field and posted it.<\/p>\n

Houston, however, claimed<\/a> a few minutes after the post went up that his account was \u201chacked.\u201d A week after, he said on X that multiple people had access to his account and \u201csomeone known to me\u201d posted the \u201cunauthorized tweet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Houston described it as a \u201cdeliberate attempt\u201d to discredit and embarrass<\/a> him. He did not offer any further explanation of the alleged betrayal.<\/p>\n

X has long allowed adult content on its site. Owner Elon Musk formalized policies<\/a> permitting \u201cconsensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior\u201d in 2024. Multiple politicians have been caught up in Twitter-porn scandals, including Democrats Anthony Weiner<\/a> and Bobby Pulido<\/a>, Republicans Ted Cruz <\/a>and Jason Howell<\/a> and Australian member of parliament Craig Kelly<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Houston appears to be the only prominent minister caught sharing sexual content. He is moderately active on the social media platform, typically posting religious statements four or five times per week.<\/p>\n

Online ministry<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscernment is a gift available to Spirit-filled believers,\u201d one of his posts<\/a> said in early May. \u201cTo exercise the gift of discernment can save you from many heartbreaks.\u201d Two days later, Houston told<\/a> his more than 543,000 followers that when \u201cJesus is your SOURCE. \u2026. YOU CAN\u2019T LOSE FOR WINNING!\u201d<\/p>\n

Houston also regularly responds to what media experts call \u201cengagement bait<\/a>,\u201d posts designed to drive interaction.<\/p>\n

Last week, for example, Houston replied to a post asking which Democratic politician should be saved from a fire: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris or Hillary Clinton. The former pastor wrote<\/a> \u201cNo one in those choices.\u201d <\/p>\n

The same day, an anonymous user posted a picture of Pope Leo making a funny face and asked, \u201cHonest answer: Do you trust this person?\u201d Houston replied<\/a>, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Houston and his wife Bobbie currently run an online ministry, which is registered<\/a> in Newport Beach, California, as a church. The couple also have a for-profit limited liability company<\/a> in Oklahoma. Neither organization appears to have an independent board or other forms of oversight.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Houston preached about sin, telling viewers they should accept God\u2019s forgiveness and stop judging others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to stop counting the wrongs and by so doing have a complete change of perspective. And it can be done. It can be done,\u201d he said<\/a> in the 26-minute message. \u201cSomewhere along the way, we have to lose our way and ask God to give us the grace to stop counting.\u201d<\/p>\n
