Alvin Independent School District announced that Wilder Elementary School will be closed on Wednesday, May 20, due to significant water damage as rounds of heavy rain and storms continue moving through the Houston area.<\/p>\n
District officials said classes are expected to resume on Thursday, May 21.<\/p>\n
In a message sent to families, the district said:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work to resolve this issue and ensure the campus is safe for students and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n
The closure comes as Southeast Texas remains under an unsettled weather pattern this week. <\/p>\n
A line of storms moved through the Houston area overnight, and additional rounds of heavy rain are expected through Memorial Day weekend. <\/p>\n
Our meteorologists warn that some areas could see 3 to 5 inches of rainfall or more this week, increasing the risk of street flooding and hazardous road conditions. <\/p>\n
Drivers across the Houston area have already experienced slick roads and weather-related slowdowns during the Wednesday morning commute as storms continue moving through the region.<\/p>\n
