LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Days after opening the season with a 1-0 win against the Fort Worth Vaqueros, the Lubbock Matadors (1-0) are now looking to beat the same club twice in seven days. Friday\u2019s matchup will also be their home opener. <\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying the same team back-to-back is a unique situation, but I always try to look at the positives from things and the fact that we\u2019re playing them back-to-back is actually kind of a good thing,\u201d said Matadors head coach David Ormistron. \u201cWe can use it as a measuring stick as to how we\u2019ve progressed as a team, have the things we\u2019ve been working on in practice, are they translating to the players, are they understanding it? So, it\u2019s actually kind of a unique proposition.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Matadors, who now play in USL League Two, were able to overcome the Vaqueros on the road Saturday night, thanks to corner kick that was headed in by defender Andrija Savic in the 26th minute. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, obviously we went away to Fort Worth on Saturday. 1-0, which was obviously important, getting three points, but there was a lot that we took from that game to work on,\u201d Ormistron said. \u201cAnd this week, we\u2019ve been really focused on the attacking side of the game. Today\u2019s session was an excellent example of that, and we want to score goals. We want to be a fluid attacking team, play exciting soccer. And so yeah, good week of practice and looking forward to the game on Friday.\u201d <\/p>\n
Friday\u2019s contest is set for 7 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park. Ormistron says the team will be wearing a special kit (uniform) for the game. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Lubbock community really is our 12th man. Our goal is to go win a USL 2 championship, a national championship this year. It is going to take all of us, not just as players, not just as coaches, but also the community supporting us. So, please come out May 22nd for our home opener,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
