{"id":302694,"date":"2026-05-21T08:37:23","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T08:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/302694\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T08:37:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T08:37:23","slug":"houston-now-offers-online-registration-for-public-comment-sessions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/302694\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston now offers online registration for public comment sessions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHouston residents interested in speaking at City Council meetings will now be able to sign up online<\/p>\n<p>What this means<\/p>\n<p>Houston City Council approved an ordinance that will add online registration as an option to sign up to speak during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstontx.gov\/council\/meetingsinfo.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">council meetings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Previously, if residents wanted to speak during a City Council meeting\u2019s public session, they could only sign up in person, by calling or by sending an email.<\/p>\n<p>Council member Alejandra Salinas introduced the ordinance to allow online registration May 14, using Proposition A, which allows council members to put items on the City Council agenda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a much-needed improvement to our sign-up process, allowing folks to sign up online to participate at City Hall,\u201d Salinas said. \u201cI think this is a great continuation of the work that council has already been doing to make City Hall more accessible by having evening [public session] meetings, and I hope there are more initiatives like this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A quick note<\/p>\n<p>Ordinances take effect within five days of passage.
