GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas \u2014 A previously convicted felon accused of shooting at Grand Prairie police officers during a domestic violence investigation has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Northern District of Texas.<\/p>\n
Federal prosecutors announced the charge against Malik Williams on Thursday following the May 2 incident.<\/p>\n
According to a criminal complaint, a child called police to report that an argument between their mother and her boyfriend had become physical. When officers arrived, they encountered Williams sitting inside a silver Nissan Altima and the woman in a blood-stained shirt.<\/p>\n
Investigators said that when officers told Williams he was not free to leave, he sped off, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit ended when an officer used a PIT maneuver.<\/p>\n
As an officer exited his patrol vehicle, investigators allege Williams fired at him with an AR-15-style rifle. A second officer returned fire, striking Williams, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
Williams surrendered and was taken to a hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Federal investigators later determined Williams was on parole for six prior felony convictions, including five involving domestic violence against the same victim, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
