City Sales & Use Tax Comparison Summary From sales made in March<\/p>\n

The sales tax allocation to Port Aransas for sales made in March was 11.21 percent higher than the same period last year, according to the latest information released by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.<\/p>\n

The payment for the March reporting period was $429,605.97. The payment from the same period in 2025 was $386,270.99.<\/p>\n

The allocation was for sales made in March, remitted to the state in April and distributed to cities, counties and other taxing entities in May.<\/p>\n

Of the nine cities tracked by the South Jetty, five saw their receipts increase. Besides Port Aransas, the cities with larger allocations were Corpus Christi, Ingleside, Port Isabel and South Padre Island.<\/p>\n

The cities with lower allocations were Aransas Pass, Rockport, Galveston and San Antonio.<\/p>\n

Statewide, sales tax revenue totaled $4.7 billion in March, 9.8 percent more than in March 2025, according to a news release issued by the State Comptroller of Public Accounts.<\/p>\n

Overall state sales tax collections grew by nearly 10 percent, with growth much higher than the rate of general price inflation for a second consecutive month, the news release said.<\/p>\n

The release quoted Kell Hancock, acting Texas comptroller.<\/p>\n

\u201cResults from all major economic sectors were once again positive,\u201d Hancock said.<\/p>\n

The growth was led by large gains from sectors driven mainly by consumer spending, he said.<\/p>\n

Among the sectors influenced primarily by business spending, growth in receipts from the construction, wholesale trade and manufacturing sectors remained robust, while remittances from the mining sector were slightly positive compared with last year.<\/p>\n

The largest gains came from the sectors driven primarily by consumer spending, with the retail trade and service sectors both increasing by double digits compared with the same period the year before.<\/p>\n

The growth in receipts from the service sector reflects a surge in spending on live entertainment. Within the retail trade sector, double-digit gains in receipts came from the general merchandise subsector \u2014 with strong results from big box retailers and warehouse clubs \u2014 as well as from electronic shopping.<\/p>\n

Growth in receipts from clothing and accessories stores and electronics and appliance stores was also notably strong, while remittances from grocery stores were down slightly compared with the same month a year ago.<\/p>\n

Receipts from restaurants were up 4.2 percent from a year ago, above the rate of inflation for food away from home.<\/p>\n
