Tuesday\u2019s thunderstorms and temperature drops overnight into Wednesday didn\u2019t stop a crowd of shoppers waiting to be the first in line at the grand opening for the new Mid-cities H-E-B<\/a> May 20.<\/p>\n

North Arlington resident Stacey Archip was the first customer in line at the store, located at 2105 Rio Grande Blvd. in Euless on the northwest corner of Cheek-Sparger Road and Rio Grande Boulevard off State Highway 121. Archip arrived around 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was surprised I was number one, because I always heard people camp out,\u201d Archip said. \u201cI\u2019m really excited about the pineapples that are on sale, but I love the tortillas.\u201d<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t Archip\u2019s first H-E-B grand opening, but she said she was \u201dsuper excited\u201d because this new store was close to home.<\/p>\n

Similarly, Bedford resident Chandra Acy said she was happy the new location is closer to her \u2014 now she won\u2019t have to drive at least 30 to 40 minutes to shop at H-E-B.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always get the jalape\u00f1o popper chips, that\u2019s my favorite,\u201d Acy said. \u201cI also love the fried green beans, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hunter Nabors, from the Cleburne\/Burleson area, said he shops at H-E-Bs in his area and is a fan of the store\u2019s potstickers, but said he wanted to experience a grand opening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought there would be a lot more people, to be honest … I got here about 4:30 [a.m.], and it was barely around the building, so I\u2019m not complaining too much,\u201d Nabors said.<\/p>\n

The store, will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

H-E-B has expanded into the Metroplex, by opening stores in Allen, Frisco, Fort Worth\u2019s Alliance, Mansfield, Prosper and Melissa. Dallas is getting its first H-E-B, too.<\/p>\n

This location is the 12th store to open in North Texas, joining the other 11 H-E-B locations and three Joe V\u2019s Smart Shops that have opened since 2022. The store is also home to the 50th True Texas BBQ restaurant.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to open our first H-E-B store in HEB and thrilled to join this vibrant community, strengthening our presence in the DFW region,\u201d H-E-B Executive Vice President for North West Food and Drug Operations Juan-Carlos Ruck wrote in a news release. \u201cMore than anything, our amazing Partners are eager to get to work, welcome our customers with open arms, and provide an unmatched shopping experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new store features a True Texas BBQ restaurant, a full-service drive-thru pharmacy, a fuel station with a car wash, curbside grocery pick-up and home delivery service.<\/p>\n

According to Ruck, the store also has a new hot food option where shoppers can buy tamales, rotisserie chicken, crawfish and shrimp, freshly baked cookies and more. This new option, along with the pick-up meals, is designed for busy families on the go.<\/p>\n

The grocer hired 600 full- and part-time positions, including in the deli, bakery, market, produce, seafood and the True Texas BBQ restaurant. About 85% of those hired are new employees; the rest have come from other stores, Ruck said.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2014Most people would not think there\u2019s 600 people that work in a grocery store, and that should tell you just how much actually goes on,\u201d Ruck said. \u201cIt\u2019s like Disney World, what goes on behind the scenes in all of these back rooms, the amount of food production that we do in store, because that\u2019s what sets H-E-B apart\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The store also has a bakery with handmade artisan breads, cakes and its famous warm tortillas made in the store daily. The in-house Sushiya Sushi House makes handmade sushi daily and has an Asian grill with rice bowls, teriyaki and more.<\/p>\n

H-E-B, with headquarters in San Antonio, operates more than 455 stores in Texas and Mexico and employs more than 175,000 people.<\/p>\n
