LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Everyone is invited as alumni and students come together for a weekend full of music, memories and 50 years of history at South Plains College.<\/p>\n
Matt Quick, a professor of sound and technology at SPC, is proud of the many lives that have been touched by the program.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery person I talked to always says the same thing: that department, that place changed my life or that teacher changed my life, and for sure that\u2019s the theme right there,\u201d Quick said.<\/p>\n
Quick says the celebration is designed to bring alumni and students together to showcase talent. <\/p>\n
The Creative Arts department at SPC is all about helping people find what they love, and for many, that love is music.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to help people continue to gather tools so that they can be really successful in their passion,\u201d Quick said. \u201cSo many people still come to us because they love music and they want to figure out a way to go out there and make a living doing that,\u201d Quick said.<\/p>\n
SPC student excited to follow in alumni footsteps<\/p>\n
Casin Peak is a sophomore at SPC studying commercial music. He says he is honored to be able to walk the same halls as those who went on to be successful in the music industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s awesome knowing that I\u2019m walking on the same path as those people who got to do that for their entire lives,\u201d Peak said. \u201cThere are a lot of people who are Grammy winners that have played forever who came through SPC and that\u2019s awesome, I want to do that,\u201d Peak said.<\/p>\n
Peak will be part of the celebration and says he can\u2019t wait to play with some of the greats.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to get up there and play the best I possibly can, and I kind of want to pay homage to this because I have this privilege to be here and play for the people that attended in the past and all of the people who have made careers in music,\u201d Peak said.<\/p>\n
Whether you love music or are looking to have a fun time with your family, Quick believes the celebration will be something you won\u2019t want to miss.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going to witness a lot of people that ultimately came here or are here as current students playing together because they love music, and just trying to make music and have a great time,\u201d Quick said. \u201cI think that whether you\u2019re a musician or an audience member, you can\u2019t help but feel that, you\u2019re going to be able to dance, sit and listen to songs, all of that is going to be here,\u201d Quick said.<\/p>\n
