EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 47-year-old man convicted of sexually assaulting a child will spend 33 years in prison after an El Paso jury handed down its sentence Thursday.<\/p>\n
Kevin Jerome Woods was sentenced following a three-day trial in the 346th District Court. <\/p>\n
The jury found Woods guilty on Wednesday on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and returned its punishment verdict the following day.<\/p>\n
The case began in January 2022, when the victim disclosed to their mother that Woods had sexually abused them years earlier, when they were under the age of six. <\/p>\n
The victim later participated in a forensic interview, where they reported a single incident and described the assault in detail, according to the El Paso District Attorney’s Office. <\/p>\n
This case began when the victim was still a young child, and it has taken years to reach this conclusion,\u201d District Attorney James Montoya said. \u201cNo victim should have to wait that long for accountability. Our Office continues to work to move long-pending cases forward, and we deeply appreciate the jury\u2019s careful attention to the evidence and their service in bringing this case to a just resolution.<\/p>\n
Woods is not eligible for parole and will have to serve the entirety of his sentence day-for-day, according to the DA’s office. <\/p>\n
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n
