The twin brother of Austin Metcalf \u2013 the Texas football star who died in his sibling\u2019s arms after a fatal stabbing last year<\/a> \u2013 accepted both of their diplomas during an emotional moment at their high school graduation.<\/p>\n

Hunter Metcalf, wearing his black and gold regalia, crossed the stage twice during Memorial High School\u2019s ceremony inside the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cHunter Metcalf will accept the posthumous diploma on behalf of his brother, Austin Metcalf,\u201d the speaker said as the packed arena erupted into applause and a 30-second standing ovation, according to WFAA.<\/a><\/p>\n

Moments earlier, Hunter had walked across the stage to receive his own diploma.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old high school senior \u2013 who was born two minutes after his brother Austin \u2013 graduated Cum Laude, garnering a weighted GPA of 4.0 or above, according to a program viewed by The Post.<\/p>\n

The emotional pause in the ceremony came just over 13 months after Austin Metcalf was killed during a violent altercation at a high school track and field championship on April 2, 2025. <\/p>\n

Austin, a junior, was sitting in the stands of Frisco\u2019s Kuykendall Stadium when he confronted Centennial High School senior Karmelo Anthony, who chose to sit underneath Memorial High\u2019s tent set up in the bleachers of the venue.<\/p>\n

Austin asked Anthony to leave his school\u2019s seating section, but his request was allegedly met with hostility, and an altercation broke out.<\/p>\n

Police put up crime scene tape around the Memorial High School tent at Kuykendall Stadium after the fatal stabbing on April 2, 2025. Fox4<\/p>\n

During the altercation, Anthony allegedly pulled a knife out of his bag and stabbed Austin in the chest.<\/p>\n

The murder suspect fled the area after the stabbing, leaving Austin to die while Hunter held him in his arms.<\/p>\n

Anthony was arrested shortly after the stabbing and was charged with first-degree murder.<\/a><\/p>\n

A jury trial is scheduled to begin on June 1. If found guilty, Anthony faces a maximum prison sentence of between 5 and 99 years.<\/p>\n

Despite being treated as an adult in the case, Anthony is spared from the death penalty<\/a> and even life in prison without parole, following the US Supreme Court\u2019s ruling against convicted criminals who were 17 and under at the time of the crime.<\/p>\n

Metcalf\u2019s father, Jeff, had been vocal against Anthony since his son\u2019s alleged killer was released from prison and ordered on house arrest.<\/p>\n

The mourning father had been tossed from a news conference<\/a> held by lawyers for Anthony back in April. <\/p>\n
