EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 El Paso County has received strong credit ratings from two of the nation\u2019s leading rating agencies, as the County prepares for its upcoming bond sale.<\/p>\n

Moody\u2019s Ratings assigned the County an Aa2 rating with \u201cstable outlook\u201d to the County\u2019s Series 2026 General Obligation and Refunding bonds.<\/p>\n

In its report, Moody\u2019s cited that the rating reflects El Paso County\u2019s \u201cstrength of the local economy and considerable commercial, industrial and residential development that is expected to continue,\u201d the County said in a news release. <\/p>\n

Fitch Ratings also reaffirmed the County\u2019s AA+ rating with a stable outlook designation, referencing the County\u2019s \u201chigh midrange budgetary flexibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fitch further highlighted the County\u2019s \u201ceconomic and institutional strength given the County\u2019s role as an economic, educational, and employment anchor on the U.S.\/Mexico border for the large and growing metropolitan statistical area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The continuation of these strong ratings comes amid a year marked by heightened global and national economic volatility, including fluctuating interest rates, inflationary pressures, and broader uncertainty in financial markets, the County said.<\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, El Paso County has continued to demonstrate fiscal stability, conservative budgeting practices, and resilience, it added. <\/p>\n

The upcoming bond sale will support continued implementation of voter-approved Capital Improvement Bond projects authorized under the 2024 bond election. Projects include strategic investments in County parks, a new medical examiner\u2019s office and the County\u2019s first animal shelter. <\/p>\n

\u201cMaintaining these strong ratings during a period of economic uncertainty reflects the County\u2019s disciplined financial stewardship and long-term planning,\u201d said El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego. \u201cThese affirmations reinforce that El Paso County is making responsible investments in infrastructure while protecting taxpayers and maintaining the financial flexibility needed to serve our community well into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese ratings demonstrate that El Paso County continues to take a balanced and responsible approach to growth,\u201d said County Commissioner Iliana Holguin. \u201cEven in a challenging economic environment, the County remains committed to investing in projects that improve quality of life while safeguarding the County\u2019s long-term financial health.\u201d<\/p>\n
