The Colorado Rapids (5-9-1, 16 pts., 11th\u00a0West)\u00a0fell to FC Dallas (7-4-4 25 pts., 4th\u00a0West) 2-1 at home on Saturday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Heading into the night, Colorado was looking to empty the tank against Dallas with this match being the club\u2019s last until\u00a0mid-July\u00a0due to the upcoming FIFA World Cup break.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The first half saw plenty of action from both sides, with\u00a0each club getting chances early in the attacking end.\u00a0With plenty of action in the final third, the visitors managed to grab the match\u2019s first goal in the 12th\u00a0minute via a penalty kick from\u00a0Logan Farrington.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite conceding early, the Rapids had an answer\u00a0almost\u00a0instantaneously. After stopping a Dallas attack, Colorado began a counter of their own as they\u00a0charged up\u00a0the midfield. Wayne Frederick found himself with the ball and threaded a perfect pass to a sprinting Georgi Minoungou. The winger then took control\u00a0down\u00a0the\u00a0right\u00a0wing and found a lane\u00a0for a cross\u00a0to Paxten Aaronson. From there, the Designated Player placed a shot into the back of the net to equalize in the 13th\u00a0minute.<\/p>\n
The goal marked Aaronson’s\u00a0fourth goal of the season and\u00a0ninth\u00a0of his MLS career.\u00a0He\u00a0has now recorded three goal contributions in his last three MLS appearances (1g, 2a). Frederick\u2019s assist was his fifth of the season,\u00a0with the midfielder now recording a goal contribution in consecutive MLS appearances.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After back-to-back fireworks, the match slowed\u00a0down for\u00a0close to the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of the first half.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Right before the halftime whistle,\u00a0Dallas managed to draw their second penalty kick of the match, this time with Santiago Moreno converting his attempt.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The second half saw much less action in the attacking end, with Dallas maximizing their defense in their attempts to prevent an\u00a0equalizer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Rapids managed to create opportunities in the final\u00a0third but\u00a0were unable to convert in the final 45 minutes-plus to level the match at two.\u00a0<\/p>\n
