Sadly, hurting a child isn\u2019t unimaginable. It\u2019s as imaginable as any act of violence that flows from rage and impatience.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Those who wonder how anyone could beat a toddler or strike an infant perhaps haven\u2019t spent much time around children. If\u00a0they have, perhaps they\u00a0have forgotten their moments of frustration \u2014 moments\u00a0that didn\u2019t, as they shouldn\u2019t, escalate to violence.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not meant as glib or callous to acknowledge that children cry \u2014 often a lot \u2014 and that these challenging emotions and other things they do can irritate adults,\u00a0even those caring for them. Children can exhaust adults, get on their nerves, wear their patience thin until the adults are tempted to \u2026 but they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n
Thankfully, most adults\u00a0maintain their senses and self-control before doing something\u00a0they can\u2019t take back, always mindful of the line between frustration and assault.<\/p>\n
Imaginable is not excusable, but imagining\u00a0\u2014 even understanding\u00a0\u2014 how some people surrender to a tempting belief that getting physical will bring psychological relief can be useful in preventing such violence, especially for those under stress.<\/p>\n
