The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a passenger vehicle and a bicycle that occurred Monday afternoon along eastbound Interstate 20 near Matlock Road.<\/p>\n

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at approximately 3:49 p.m., officers responded to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Matlock Road to investigate a major crash involving a bicyclist and a 2005 Toyota Prius.<\/p>\n

Preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was attempting to cross the interstate from south to north when a passenger vehicle traveling in the second lane swerved to avoid the bicyclist. A second passenger vehicle traveling behind that car, identified as the Toyota Prius, then struck the bicyclist.<\/p>\n

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n

The driver of the Prius, along with the other occupants in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

Eastbound Interstate 20 was temporarily shut down near Cooper Street while officers investigated the circumstances of the crash and cleared the roadway.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
